Glorious September

September 5th. 2011

Well, here we are in September already. How is your mindset doing?

Summer is over and now it’s time to set new things in motion for the next ten months or so till, once again, summer comes back to give us respite.

For me September is way more a time of newness than January first is. That’s just a turn of the calendar to month one. Not really as big a deal as what usually happens in the month nine.

When I was in my school years it meant moving from our family cottage beside a large lake back to the city. I believe that was a contributing factor to me not liking school all that much, at least not at first anyway. That was how I saw it. The real reason I think was that there just too much newness happening and a situation like that always opened the door to the possibility of failure visiting me again.

You know how it goes: Trying something new = failure.

I remember my first year in high school. It started and soon was so deeply lost in the curriculum I could hardly breathe. It all crashed the next June when my marks proved me right about my grasp of that horrible failure formula. I had failed for sure and I had the numbers to prove it.

Ouch! I hated it. Still do if I stop and think about it.

But now, as an entrepreneur, this time of year is more like a slingshot pulled all the way back ready to fire. Just have to define the target and then let go and follow the plan. The possibility for failure still exists of course but the possibility of a successful outcome exists too.

For my wife and I it’s a whole new start.

We’re in a new location is a larger more spacious home on a beautiful acreage that even includes its own blueberry patch. The mornings bring us sunlight just at the right angle that we can comfortably sit out on the huge deck and eat our breakfast comfortably without the strong light blinding us. These warm September days aren’t bad either.

For me it’s a continuation of anew internet show ( update: After 6 months at it I’m cancelling my weekly show and moving on.) I’m doing for marketers every Monday night at 11PM Eastern. It’s only been going for a little while and tonight is my fourth show. I’m excited and so grateful to be able to do it from my new home office and being able to reach so many wonderful people with my message of mindset immunity.

This could be a very good year. But we can talk about that next June.

Yeah, it’s September alright.

Mobius Monday Minute – May 9 , 2011

I subscribe to a design blog and they send me updates like a lot of blogs do. The latest one contained a quote someone sent in from broadcaster Ira Glass. Ira won the much coveted Edward R. Murrow Award in 2009. He’s a very accomplished writer and radio personality. Been doing it since he was just nineteen years old.

Know what he said about his beginnings in radio? He said that he took the longest time to reach a level of mastery in doing interviews and stories on radio then anyone he knows. He says that getting through the beginning time can take years of working through the frustration with your own crappy output. It tries to be good but it’s just not. He says that’s where most loose it. They quit because they are convinced that they will never ever see success.

I know what he’s talking about.

I’ve just had another birthday blow by and I’m still trying to refine my message about mindset immunity and the fact that I have the tool that can allow anyone, in 24 hours or less, to see and feel the huge ocean of potential that exists within them. And when they use this tool they can create amazing levels of self-belief.

When attempting to do something new it becomes a creative work no matter what field you work in. There is a lot of failure to contend with.

In another email I got this week Ishita Gupta was interviewing Steven Pressfield on his new book “Do The Work“. In it Pressfield related a story about Picasso:

“There’s a famous story of Picasso after he had finished about 24 paintings for his next show. He invited his agent or his manager to his studio to look at the paintings and as Picasso was looking at them with his manager, he started to hate them. He grabbed a painting knife and started slashing the paintings. The manager absolutely freaked out and said, “NO, NO, NO!” but Picasso kept slashing until they were all ruined. Then he went back to the drawing board.”

That’s the kind of craziness that happens with our own self-assessment. It’s punishing to be a creative or a leader of any kind.

If I was going to quit I should have done it 20 years ago. But I didn’t and now I can’t. There is just too much at stake. Too many lives to help make better, richer, more fulfilling.

Besides, it worked for Ira so it’ll work for me.

What do you see?

The interesting thing about what I do in my work is often the disparate connections I find with the physical and the ethereal. This time it’s something in ophthalmology known as  stereopsis.

This term describes the advantage of having two separate eyes that see an object from different perspectives but are able to blend it so that an accurate image is created in the visual field of the brain.

Of course I had to put my spin on this. This is the interesting part.

As I have stated on this blog many times I see the nature of humans as being a dual setup. That is, two distinct realities in one.  One physical and one ethereal.

In the construction of the human body, weather you are aware of it or not, is found two different sets of brains. One in the head and a lesser known one in the gut.  The top brain can think but not feel and the gut brain can feel but is not a ‘thinking’ brain.  This duality can be existing in a particular person since birth but yet operate separately without much perceptual benefit of one to the other because of a serious disconnect.

The whole point of having two eyes is to bring into focus the reality of depth perception. This, on a very basic level, is what stereopsis is all about. The problem is that, while this blended vision happens quite nicely with image data from the two eyes, it fails miserably in perceptual reality with the two brains. If it didn’t we would all be experiencing a viable level of active mindset immunity 24/7/365.

In the aspect of mindset immunity you need both sets of brains to recognize each other in a certain way that informs the intellect by observing proof that there is indeed an active agent operating in the body that is itself not physical.  I’m speaking about that phenomenon we refer to as the “gut feeling”.

Now don’t roll your eyes I know you’ve had one or two of them.

If we can get both sets of brains working together in a manner that would fit the needs of  stereopsis then what they will be able to present to the intellect is a perceptual picture of the non-physical active gut-based agent that has all along backed yet another phenomenon existent in each and every human: the drive of persistence and determination.

The overall effect of this special type of steropsis is proof that the individual is indeed way more than he or she might see themselves as being previously.  This is the takeaway that a solid belief in oneself based on hard evidence can provide. Call it self-esteem, super self-confidence, whatever you want. It’s not just a learned attribute it’s really more like a new capability.

Mindset immunity (the theory that you have a parallel immune system for the thinking mind as you would have for the body)  appears almost completely non-existent in most all people because it is indeed so slow acting. It’s job is to do a similar job that the body’s immune system does: getting things back to normal. In this case the gyrations both up and down of rogue thinking.

For example, I’ve recently become aware of a guy, I’ll call him Bobby, who has just this week broken up with his girlfriend. The relationship is a fairly new one. It actually started only about two months ago. I won’t get into the details except to say that she is getting back together with her husband who is the father of her three young kids. I suppose you can say that she dumped Bobby in favor of her ex-husband.

This is seen by Bobby as a direct rejection of himself as a person and he is having a real problem coming to grips with it. Last year, he once told me,  he spent over one thousand dollars attending some sort of three-day self-help seminar that made  him feel better about himself. Despite the glowing way he spoke about this particular seminar his current knockdown has him back on the anti-depression meds that he used to take every day before the costly seminar.

As I see it, and I’m not a therapist of any sort, it’s simply a matter of lack of a type of stereopsis. The immune system for the thinking is seriously hobbled in our man Bobby because the top brain and the intellect cannot apprehend what the gut brain can access.

Head-based motivations come from thoughts generated from a host of external sources  and, like a virus in the physical body, they must be controlled or they can quickly multiply causing overriding motivations in the host that are not always very positive.

This morning I was listening to the radio morning show on CBC. Every week they have a medical doctor on and he reports on some interesting findings from the world of medicine. According to the good doctor in past years lots of medical doctors and nurses showed up for work even if they knew they had a flu or cold. They thought that they were being of more service to their patients then not being there for them at all.

Of course, the fact that one sneeze can send out over 40,000 droplets of water full of active viruses into the office air, and could therefor easily spread the disease to the other patients, wasn’t fully considered that big a problem. After all the thinking back then was that no one was ever going to die from a cold or flu.

But that was before H1N1 cam along. That changed things forever and it’s a different story now.

But this is a blog is about mindset not medicine so I do need to draw a connection here and so here it is.

No matter if they be they embodied in physical viruses or negative thoughts damaging factors can easily spread, populate, and infect new hosts in very similar ways. For example, in offices everywhere managers have noticed that it only takes one worker voicing negativity to bring down the well-being of the entire work group.

Sound familiar?

That to me is a clear indication that thinking systems mirror the physical system as seen in the body. But the body has an advantage.  It’s got an immune system that, if maintained in health, does an excellent job of handling invading pathogens on a daily basis. Unfortunately the one corrective system that I believe is present in the mindset is itself very slow acting.

So slow in fact as to appear to not be present at all. That leaves the thinking much more susceptible to negative invaders. In fact studies show this to be true. Our daily thoughts, they report, are on average about 70% negative.

So what kind of flu are you helping to spread?

I Made H.E.R.O.

See, I’m guilty because I made the H.E.R.O. eMachine years ago and so far I have not yet launched it in any major market. Pitiful isn’t it?  I just tested it a bit here and there and even had some pretty good results too.

So why am I so slow to get it going? (Hold it. That’s what my wife would ask. You haven’t been talking to her have you?)

Let me start by telling you what H.E.R.O. actually is and then we can get on with my guilty plea.

H.E.R.O. is an acronym (hope you don’t mind acronyms I use them a lot so I’m guilty there too) for:

• Honest
• Examination of
• Real
• Occurrences

Don’t worry if this doesn’t make sense just yet, it will soon.

H.E.R.O. is a little… “unusual” I guess you could say. See it’s not at all like any other thing you may have seen in personal development. It’s not a bunch of information that you must read and study over and over again.  It’s not like meditation or yoga either.

In fact H.E.R.O. is downright weird actually. It’s more like a tool or even an appliance like a toaster than a personal development program.

I think I probably describe it best by comparing it to Google… but in reverse. With Google you put in a search term in and it spits out a result. With H.E.R.O. it gives you the proper search phrase, called a key, then you have to look at a past activity that relates to the key. This must be one of those times when you overcame an obstacle where your persistence or determination got a real workout.

Then you’ve got to type that result in and hit “enter”. Then keep doing more just like that with every key phrase it gives you.

It takes a while but by the end of it something incredible happens. You start feeling really really good about yourself but… for no apparent reason.

But we’re not done yet.

Next you’re asked to perform a kind of viewing exercise from inside of your own nervous system. (See, told you it was weird.)

It’s called the “fovea exercise”. If you’ve done it right so far you should be feeling something buzzing around in your gut area just below your rib cage. Now look at that area, known widely as the solar plexus, and type in your “impression” of what you are perceiving as being active there at that location.

Good. Now you’re just about done. Next you have to describe it an at least three of five categories.

What you have seen inside of you is the strangest (yet the most natural) thing you will ever experience. What you are “seeing” is the root core energy drive behind every act of persistence and determination you have ever performed. Or ever will perform in the future for that matter. (I describe it as an immune system for the mindset. In fact I write about mindset immunity a lot. It’s the only theory that makes sense. We have one for the body. why not one for the thinking?)

From then on you will forever be able to look and see that core energy whenever you want or need to. You never need to do H.E.R.O. over again ever. In fact you can’t.  You will be flagged if you try because we never allow repeat attempts once there has been a break longer than fifteen minutes during the process. It doesn’t seem to work as well and just wastes everyone’s time.

So, let me ask you.
