Questions/Answers – Think and Grow Rich

Is Think And Grow Rich By Napoleon Hill Enough To Build A Strong Belief In Yourself?

Napoleon Hill still looks good to a lot of people trying to strengthen their mindsetI’ve written about Napoleon Hill before. But recently I was in an online forum and I’m always amazed at the attention and interest the work of  Napoleon Hill still get’s so many decades after his death.

In the post I was reading the person who started the thread was asking people to explain in our own words what we thought Hills most famous book was all about. Elsewhere on the same thread the poster came back and commented that he thought it was about faith and total belief.

Here’s how I responded:

You are absolutely right on about the total belief thing. But here’s the rub. Any belief no matter what it is about can only be established through one of these two ways:

1. Argument – a story, a discussion, a great book read over and over such as Think and Grow Rich (you get the idea) 2. Hard evidence – If you put your finger over a flame you will from then on be able to totally believe anyone who says that fire burns.

Now, I’m sure that you would agree hard evidence trumps mere argument any day.So the real question is: How can I create authentic belief in myself (that “I can be a success” for example) through the use of hard evidence? For the last 80 years or so those who promote the great works of the original personal development pioneers, such as Dr. Hill for example, have been trying to convince you that the main argument that’s carefully laid out and expertly crafted in these works (as well as in all the derivative expressions of it) is enough in itself to deliver the goods. Because of this It’s not surprising that you – and many millions of others like you – are still found wanting.

It turns out that the argument that these books espouse – which are great works indeed so don’t get me wrong here – only seem to work for the lucky few. Maybe 2% to 4% of the overall readership. That’s because the argument itself is more than slightly flawed because It’s mostly based on the success stories of others. It is their story not your story so all it has power do is resonate in your thoughts and thoughts, as we know, are way too changeable in today’s over-stimulated world. The idea that “I did it and therefor so can you” is powerful motivation but, unfortunately for millions of readers, that’s not always good enough to get them over the first few tough challenges they run into so they give up.

Hard evidence is different. It has to be felt by you personally, not just in the head brain but through the physical nerve endings of the gut brain (enteric nervous system). There are sound reasons for that and I’ve spent many years studying them. I have proven it over and over again with others and I can prove it to you. In my private one-on-one H.E.R.O. online Workshop/Seminars each person working from his or her own home computer get’s to realize this experience.

During the session they don’t focus on the success of others instead they focus on their own past successes only.  In fact they actually write their own little book of success (called “My Victory History”) during the one day online session.

More power to you my friend.
